David Whiting 1862-1938

David James Whiting was my great grandfather and was born on 21st May 1862 at Kelsale where he was baptised on 15th June 1862. He married Rebecca Brabbin, the daughter of James and his wife Elizabeth at Kelsale on 27th October 1883. Rebecca was born in Kelsale on 29th April 1863. They had 13 children, including my grandfather, Stanley Anthony Willgress Whiting. To date I have been unable to establish where the name Willgress, sometimes spelt Wilgress, came from - but I'm still working on it!

In 1871 David was living in Kelsale with his widowed mother, Emily, together with his brother and two surviving sisters. In 1881 David is recorded as living in Aldringham with his mother and step-father, John Hathaway. David was employed as a labourer on Johns' farm of 42 acres.
