Stanton Whiting 1723-1754
I have assumed, rightly or wrongly, that my
five greats grandfather, was born about 1723 as he would have been "of full
age" when he married Mary Care in Melton on 22nd April 1744. Mary was the
daughter of George Care and his wife Mary and was baptised in Melton on 4th
February 1725. It is quite possible that William and Mary were forced into
marriage as their daughter, Jane had been baptised nearly three months before.
According to the surviving parish records, Stanton and Mary had five children,
including my four greats grandfather, William, and they were all baptised in
Bramford.

Other than the dates of their baptisms, I have not been able to find any more details on Williams' siblings other than the fact that his brother Stanton became an apprentice wheelwright. The records show that he entered his apprenticeship in January 1773 in Belstead and his master was a Richard Garnham
Stanton senior died in 1754 and was buried on 18th December in
Bramford. His wife, Mary, died five years later and was buried in Bramford on
8th December 1759.
