Thomas Whiting 1826 - 1892
Thomas was my three greats uncle and was
baptised in Kelsale on 1st October 1826. He married Ann Mills on 26th December
1850 in Kelsale. Thomas and Ann had four children in Kelsale before moving to
Ipswich about 1860, where two more boys were born.

The 1861 census lists Thomas and his family
living at 35, Fitzroy Street, Ipswich and his occupation is given as a tailor.
The 1871 census shows the family living at 67 Tower Street. Thomas is
still listed as a tailor and his two eldest daughters, Sarah and Demaris are
listed as machinists.
By the time of the 1881 census the family had moved to 3 Berners Street.. Thomas was now listed as a tailor and clothier, Damaris had
left home and Lavinia was shown as a milliner. Both Albert and George worked for
a bookseller, Albert as an assistant seller and George as an apprentice
bookbinder.
The 1891 census shows the family still living in Berners Street.
Thomas is still listed as a tailor with Albert as an assistant tailor, presumably
his fathers'. Lavinia is now shown as an assistant housekeeper.
Following
Thomas' death in the 2nd quarter of 1892, aged 67, Ann moved to 63 Sirdar
Road where, according to the 1901 census, she worked as a tailoress. Her son
Albert, aged 40, still lived with her and he now worked as a coal merchants'
clerk.
According to the 1911 census Ann and her son Albert are living at 33
Samuel Road. Ann is simply listed as a widow an Albert is still a coal
merchants' clerk.
Ann passed away in Ipswich during the 1st quarter of 1915 aged
87.
