According to the 1851 census, William and his brother James, were still living with their parents in Kelsale. They are both listed as being a farmers' son and would have worked on the farm with their father.
In 1861 William and his young family were living on Carlton Green Road, Kelsale. He is shown as being a "farmer of 42 acres, employing 1 man".

William died 22nd November 1868 and was buried at Kelsale on the 26th November.

Emily married John Hathaway, 1820-1898, on 4th November 1871.
Emily outlived her second husband and is recorded on the 1901 census as being a farmer and an employer, even at the ripe old age of 79. Her unmarried daughter, Selina, was living with her.
Emily died at Kelsale on 30th September 1902.
